Taper optical splitter Coupler with PLC planar waveguide optical splitter

Optical splitter, also known as optical splitter, is one of the important passive devices in optical fiber links, with multiple input and multiple output optical fiber junction devices. Optical splitters can be divided into FBT Coupler and planar waveguide splitter (PLC splitter) according to the principle of splitter splitting.

Like coaxial cable transmission systems, optical network systems also need to couple, branch, and distribute optical signals, which requires optical splitters to achieve. Optical fiber Coupler (Coupler), also known as Splitter (Splitter), is a component that divides the optical signal from one optical fiber to multiple optical fibers, which belongs to the field of optical passive components.

Fused taper type and planar waveguide type (PLC type) the two types of spectral principle is similar, they change the vanishing field between the fiber coupling (coupling degree, coupling length) and change the core radius of the optical fiber to achieve different sizes of branches, and vice versa can also combine multiple optical signals into one signal called synthesizer.

Optical splitters are usually M×N to indicate that a splitter has M inputs and N outputs. From the port form can be divided: including X shape (2x2) coupler, Y shape (1x2) coupler, star shape (NxN,N>2) coupler and tree shape (1xN,N>2) coupler; According to the spectral ratio can be divided into: equipartition device and non-equipartition device.

Fused tapered FBT Coupler

1. Product introduction

The fused tapered optical splitter is to distract two (or more) optical fibers that remove the coating layer in a certain way, melt under high temperature heating, and stretch to both sides at the same time, and finally form a special waveguide structure in the form of a double cone in the heating area. By controlling the torsion Angle of the fiber and the length of the stretch, different spectral proportions are obtained. Finally, the taper area is solidified on the quartz substrate with solidifying glue and inserted into the stainless steel tube, which is the optical splitter.

2. Production process

Tapering: several optical fibers are fused and drawn into the initial parts of the specified splitting ratio on the tapering machine;

· Second sealing: Insert the steel pipe for a second cementing process

· Cycle: The product is put into the high and low temperature cycle box, the cycle is -40° ~ +85°, generally 8 hours

· Test: Test the performance specifications of the product according to the requirements of the stock order

· Assembly: the tested products are assembled into module boxes

· Grinding: The product is equipped with joint and end grinding

· Test: The polished product performance index test

· Packing and warehousing: the qualified products will be packed into the box, warehousing and delivery

3. Package size

Steel tube type:

1×2: 3×54mm 3× 60mm

1×3-1×4: 4×65mm

Planar waveguide PLC Splitter

1. Product introduction

PLC is the abbreviation of Planar Lightwave Circuit, that is, planar optical waveguide. The PLC splitter is manufactured by semiconductor technology (lithography, corrosion, development, etc.). The optical waveguide array is located in the middle of the chip, and the shunt function is integrated on the chip, that is, to achieve 1XN shunt on a chip, in general, the spectral ratio of each node is 50:50, and then, the input and the output of the multi-channel optical fiber array are coupled at both ends of the chip and the optical path of the package waveguide. Then, the input and output multichannel fiber arrays are coupled at both ends of the chip and packaged.

PLC product consists of three parts: input FA, chip, output FA.

The FA structure includes cover plate, substrate, optical fiber, soft adhesive area, and hard adhesive area, as shown in the figure above.

Soft adhesive area: Used to fix the optical fiber to the cover and bottom plate of the FA, and protect the optical fiber from damage.

Hard glue area: The optical fibers in the cover plate, bottom plate and V-shaped slot of the FA are fixed.

Mini PLC (Bare fiber/Steel pipe)

Bare fiber PLC adopts welding or cold connection mode, which is suitable for optical fiber distribution plate and cable connector box; Miniature steel pipe package, the use of 0.9mm loose sleeve small optical splitter assembly, no need to weld or cold connection, directly installed in the box body, suitable for installation space is relatively tight, such as optical cable splitter box, optical fiber splitter box, chip type and rack type optical splitter combination box medium.

ABS box PLC

A plastic ABS frame protects the PLC splitter to suit different installation environments and requirements. The common splitter modules are 1 point 4, 1 point 8, 1 point 16, 1 point 32, 1 point 64, 2 point 4, 2 point 8, 2 point 16, 2 point 32 and so on. It is widely used in PON, FTTH, FTTX, GOPN network outdoor fiber distribution box.

Chip PLC

Compact design similar to the LGX PLC optical splitter. It is usually installed in a wall-mounted FTTH box for fiber optic signal distribution. The use of micro-plug-in PLC optical splitter can not only save time and space, but also provide a reliable guarantee for optical fiber splitter.

Pallet PLC

It uses a plastic box package, the port is used as an end, and generally has an angled cassette mounting adapter. The input and output optical fibers are pre-installed on the tray, which is usually directly installed in other optical fiber distribution devices such as the optical fiber distribution frame and cross-connecting cabinet. FC, SC, ST, and LC connectors are optional.

Rack mounted PLC

Adopt metal box body package, generally into the end type. Mainly used for optical cable distribution box, optical fiber distribution frame, etc. The rack-mounted optical splitter is designed and manufactured for installation in a standard cabinet, and its specifications fully meet the requirements of a 19-inch standard communication cabinet.
